Churches of the World High resolution old and contemporary photographs of Churches and other places of Worship in Pentraeth in the county of Anglesey (Sir Fôn) in North Wales, part of the United Kingdom. Anglesey, Pentraeth, St Mary's Church - South View - Sept 2008 Pentraeth was once named Bettws Geraint, and as such the church that once stood here may have been dedicated to a 6th century celtic saint named Geraint. The name Pentraeth - meaning top of the beach - is indicative of the sea having been much closer to the village than it now is. The church is renowned for its' wonderful collection of marble memorials that adorn the inner walls, many to the familes of Panton and Vivian, that have lived at the local manor house - Plas Gwyn.
