Churches of the World High resolution old and contemporary photographs of Churches and other places of Worship in Llanwenllwyfo (Page II) in the county of Anglesey (Sir Fôn) in North Wales, part of the United Kingdom. Anglesey, Llanwenllwyfo Old Church, View of the Church and graveyard This is the original Llanwenllwyfo Church on Anglesey, dating by appearance to mediaeval times, although it is likely to have been the site of a church for many hundreds of years prior to that. Like other churchyards on Anglesey that have been superceded by a new church, the remains of this graveyard are deteriorating, and either because of humans or animals - or a combination - is falling into disrepair, with the gravestones and tombs falling victim to damage and destruction. Several broken fragments of gravestone are visible, whilst grave markers are being sperarated from the actual burial spot within the churchyard, and they will eventually disappear without trace - and it is a terrible outrage that no-one seems to be doing anything about it. It is likely that this church would have had a thatched roof, and that both the internal and external walls would have been whitewashed. We may for reasons that make sense to us, build a new church and adandon the old, but we must never abandon the burial sites of our ancestors, for they once were what we are now, and we will surely one day be what they are now.
