Churches of the World High resolution old and contemporary photographs of Churches and other places of Worship in Llaneilian in the county of Anglesey (Sir Fôn) in North Wales, part of the United Kingdom. Amlwch, Llaneilian, St Eilian's Church, Skeleton of Death St Elian's (or Elian's) Church in located in the village of Llaneilian on Anglesey, and is not only one of the earliest ecclesiastical sites on Anglesey, but also one that has very many artefacts and furniture of interest still surviving. Not least of these is the 15th century rood screen, in remarkably good order. The skeleton above - which is a painting on the rood screen - has the welsh inscription "Colyn angau yw pechod" - translates as "The sting of death is sin". Although there has been some kind of religious cell on this site since the 5th century, the church tower and steeple are the oldest parts of the present building, and they date from the 12th century. The remining parts of the church date mostly from the 15th and 17th centuries.
