Churches of the World

High Resolution Old and Contemporary Photographs of the World's Churches and other places of Worship.

England, Cumbria, Carlisle Cathedral

Webmaster's Note 4th Dec 2009: my grandson Liam is trying to raise money for Leukemia Research, and I would be ever so grateful if as a way of encouraging such deeds from the young that you consider donating just a little to help him. As you may know, the 'just giving' site is a well respected and 100% secure website. http://www.justgiving.com/Liam-Gardner

This website was designed purely for the reason of displaying high resolution photographs of the world's places of worship. I am not going to differentiate between religion, or the era of the photographs, and there will be - hopefully with your help - photos of Churches, Chapels, Mosques, Synagogues, Temples, Viharas, Mandirs, Meeting houses, Jinjas, Pathis, Wats, Gurdwaras, Bahá'í's, Kingdom Halls, and any other religions places of worship.

For the simple purpose of writing this website I will refer to all places of worship as simply 'churches'. Hopefully many will enjoy viewing the older photographs - for purely nostalgic reasons, or even for researching their family history, but I will also display present day pictures of churches - and will welcome any high resolution photographs that you care to submit.

On this website we will be as we should be - every religion in harmony with each other.

I already have thousands of old images of churches and other places of worship, so I am confident that given time this site will become a one stop photographic archive that will be of interest to researchers, or those that just like to look at peaceful photographs. It will ultimately become a site of photographic reference and a unique internet resource - with help from the one above.

Because I am from the United Kingdom of Great Britain, the images will be predominantly from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, but I hope you will send in many pictures from your country as well. With your help - and with the help of whoever you concieve to be the 'One' above us all - this site will become the finest photographic archives of places to worship on the internet.

As this site is brand new I have begun by uploading the English Churches pages, and so far - alphabetically - I have finished up to and including Staffordshire (and Yorkshire). When England is uploaded, I will continue with Scotland, Ireland and Wales, and then the other countries.

The easiest way to navigate the site or to find what you are looking for is via the grey search box at the upper part of this page.

You may select from a place name in the left hand column, or search using the box below - tip: inserting the place name may be the quickest way to find your church.

If you have any pictures of the places of worship of any religion in any country, then please scan your photographs or postcards in at a high resolution, but at least 1280 pixels width, and email them to me here.

Not just a photo of the outside of your place of worship, but of the beautiful things inside, and even of the graveyard, and the interesting tombstones.

In addition, if you want to tell us about your church, then we will display your story with the photographs of the place of worship, so as every visitor to your page may learn and appreciate what your church is about.
